"While the production is crisp and has a contemporary clarity, Dedman's songs definitely have a nostalgic quality; one can imagine a lonely road trip across the south in the mid-'60s and hearing these songs on some mightily powered C&W radio station of yore. Too, the musicians are empathetic and precise, playing fluidly but never too much. It's a very fine, totally competitive recording." - Rick Koster, The Day
Behind The Music:
Channel 33's CD cover photo features the CB radio used throughout the 1970's by "Capt. Sunshine" (David Dedman) to swap tall tales and twangin' tunes with his friend, lumber hauler, and fellow guitar picker, "Plywood Cowboy" (John Hanus). Their CBs were tuned, of course, to channel 33.
The CD's back photo features Ludwig, the howling, obstinate, beloved inspiration for the track "Redbone Religion". His days in the studio are over, but he lives on in song.
